Description
- The most effective conservation tool used by museums all over the world!
- Coin polishing and canning wax.
- Sales volume in a plastic container – 200 ml.
Renaissance ™ wax polishing and canning wax was invented back in the 1950s in the research laboratories of the British Museum, after lengthy discussions among the museum’s technical staff, during international conferences attended by professional restorers.
In accelerated aging tests, British Museum staff found that standard commercial protective waxes based on natural waxes contain acids that eventually damage collections and furniture. A new type of wax was invented – microcrystalline.
The properties of this man-made wax provide long-term protection for all types of museum exhibits. The use of this wax does not cause problems during further preservation and does not damage the value of valuables.
Commercial production of this wax began in 1968 with the London-based company Picreator Enterprises Ltd. , better known by its brand ‘Renaissance’. This product was quickly accepted by museologists around the world and became the standard for restoration and conservation, probably because it can be used virtually anywhere.
Why is Renaissance wax completely different?
The microcrystalline structure of this wax is much finer than that of natural waxes, a property that provides particularly effective resistance to moisture. Countless statues and monuments in the streets are now covered in Renaissance wax to protect them from environmental erosion. Weapons and armor, steel and kitchen utensils made of bronze and copper in museums remain shiny, bright and protected from corrosion.
When the wax covers the surface with a thin layer, the wax film remains completely transparent and does not change the color of the surface. Renaissance wax does not contain acids (pH neutral) and will not damage even extremely sensitive substances. For example, photographs of historical value in exhibitions are coated with this wax to protect the photographs from natural acids from the hands and the environment. This wax does not leave stains and does not darken even white paper.
For furniture and wood carvings, wax emphasizes naturalness, can be used directly on sand-treated surfaces, unfinished hardwood products without the use of sealants. Waxing is the last stage for handmade furniture, and wood, stone and metal sculptures, but the first pleasant impression for the eyes and hands. The transparency and shine of Renaisance wax will be noticed immediately.
The silk softness film provides a pleasant touch compared to finger sticking, leaving traces on softer wax-coated surfaces.
No matter how often the wax is used, there will be no loss of transparency, so the surface detail will not disappear. More frequent use of wax will only deepen the shine, give more reflection from the coated surface and give more vitality.
The unique composition of the wax allows it to be used for the protection of any surface, the wax, for example, can be used to protect weapons. The wax film is hard and dry, unlike the grease, which is sticky and attracts acids from the atmosphere. Things are more pleasant to the touch.
Renaissance wax is used for: anti-darkening of metals such as silver, bronze and copper, in all metal collections (old coins, locks and keys, weapons, armor protection), for both wood and metal surfaces in old cars, musical instruments, bronze sculptures inside and on the outside, which are exposed to atmospheric phenomena, granite products, leather goods. These are just a few examples of the use of wax.
